Support for a children's home in Karoi

May 2020 - Our contact person in Zimbabwe became aware of the Hurungwe Children's Home through a call to collect blankets. Around 50 babies, children and young people live in the children's home. Karoi is located in Mashonaland West about 200km from Harare.

Our contact person visited the children's home and spontaneously donated food to the home. Regular visits followed, during which it was found that the food would not be sufficient for the entire winter.

This was followed by a large donation from a board member, from which food items such as corn, cabbage and oil as well as essential hygiene items such as soap and feminine hygiene items could be bought. Our contact person delivered the purchases to the children's home with a truck. The children's home could thus be brought and helped over this winter.

At the beginning of 2021, the children's home was closed by the Karoi city administration, and the children were distributed to homes in neighboring cities. The reason was that the water supply could no longer be guaranteed.

Individual Support

In May 2021, we decided to help young people with their further education through individual support.

There is Mitchell, an orphan, former resident of the children's home in Karoi. After the closure of the children's home, she lived with her aunt and her family. In the meantime, she lives in the residential project in Bulawayo and is in her last year of high school, which she will finish in the fall. She wants to become a doctor.

And Nomsa, 21 years old, she is a half-orphan and lived in a very rural area in the Mola district. In this area, there are practically no more teachers. She now also lives in the residential project in Bulawayo and is completing her intermediate school diploma. After that, she will go to college and study to become a teacher.

And then there is Amanda, 26 years old, she had already started her "Health Security" studies when her cry for help reached us. Her family could no longer afford the constantly rising fees. Amanda has meanwhile completed her studies and has found a job in Chiredzi.

And then there is Lisnet, who also comes from the Mola district and was able to attend high school with our help. She graduated last year and started studying Social Work at the Women's University in Bulawayo in May 2026. She also lives in the residential project.

In addition, there are now many people who turn to us and ask for support. Sometimes it is only the school fees for a child in primary school, sometimes it would also be necessary to take in young people into the residential project because they are orphans and no longer have a home.

We are always looking for donors – both in Germany and in Zimbabwe – who want to give any amount for our work. And we are also very happy to facilitate contact with a child or their parents so that they can provide support in a completely individual way.

In our association, every cent goes to the children and young people. We have no administrative costs and many activities are privately funded by association members.
