The idea to aid arose on a vacation trip through southern Africa. Me, Heidi, was traveling with a group and the roads were bumpy and bad. Ultimately, the road conditions didn't seem to affect my stomach to well and so the two tour guides decided that I could ride in the front seat of the driver's cab.
Our driver was Alington and he is from Zimbabwe. And when you sit next to each other for hours, at some point you get into conversation and talk about your life. And Alington told me a lot about the situation in Zimbabwe. At that time, I didn't know much about Zimbabwe, I knew about Robert Mugabe and an embargo, but I didn't know what was really going on in the country. Alington talked for hours about the poverty and desperation of the people and about the children and young people who often have no chance to get a job one day from which they can finance a modest life. I was getting more interested and asked further and it turned out that many young people have to leave school without a qualification or have no prospect of continuing after school because their parents simply don't have the money they need for school fees, training or further education. So the idea occurred to me to found an organization, that can solve this problem. We went through various ideas, such as a funding that provides the young people with loan money, which they pay back after finishing their studies and start working for a paid job. We also had the idea of supporting individual schools with required school materials such as books, pens or notebooks without the children would never be able to learn to write. It quickly became clear that the situation of families in some areas is so desolate that it would be necessary to provide funds for basic needs. What particularly frustrated Alington was that there are many children and teenagers who are highly intelligent to graduate but because of their poor family backgrounds will never be able to reach their full potential.
That is why, it will be necessary for us to have a functioning network, so that we can find and support precisely these children.
The idea was born, and now it was time to set up an organization that could provide the framework. For this purpose, seven of us met on March 7, 2020 and founded the Tulalwendo H&A Foundation - Auf dem Weg e.V. We, the founders of the Tulalwendo H&A Foundation - Auf dem Weg e.V., are a group of people who either have a personal relationship with Africa and / or are interested in the qualification of young people. Our common goal is to look for and find ways in which we can become active so that our help and support actually reaches those who are affected.
