The southern part of Africa, including Zimbabwe, is a region which is particularly hard hit by climate change. In the last 5 years there has only been a normal harvest and most food supplies have been used up. Additionally, the effects of the cyclone that swept across the country in 2019, destroyed both crops and seeds for years to come. According to the UN, around 8 million people are currently affected by famine in Zimbabwe. In addition, since the land reform in which the agricultural land was expropriated, Zimbabwe has turned from the former granary of Africa to a country that can no longer support itself. Furthermore, the economic situation in Zimbabwe has been characterized for years by an increase in the price and shortage of all goods in all areas, so that a steadily increasing number of families are no longer able to bear the costs of any kind for the education of their children. This leads to a lack of prospects for young people and emigration to other countries as well as to a very high youth unemployment rate throughout the country. All of this runs counter to the urgently needed rebuilding of the country and leads to personnel shortages in many areas, for example in medical care and in education. Most schools are in an absolutely desolate condition, the simplest teaching aids are missing, so that a qualified teaching is not possible. As a result, school leavers from these schools cannot pass the required exams and have no prospects for an educational follow-up.
The NPO "Tulalwendo H & A Foundation / Auf dem Weg e.V." builds partnerships with schools, training centers and church communities, initially in the very underdeveloped rural areas in the Kariba region and helps both people and institutions to get the most urgently needed grants for qualification of children and young people and thus their future prospects. The aim is to build a network with the local institutions and to involve them closely so that initiative is encouraged and dependencies are avoided. The overall situation for the young generation in the country is to be improved in the long term, and the causes of emigration to other countries are to be curbed.
The headquarters of the foundation is located in Bad Oeynhausen.
